Melissa was born and raised in San Fernando Valley, California. She received her Bachelor's in Communications - Journalism from the University of Houston in 2021. She also graduated from New York University in 2023, where she received her Master's in Journalism. Melissa is a reporter and weekday anchor. When she isn’t working, she enjoys staying at home and watching movies.

Today is the first day of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. On this day, it is encouraged to wear teal and share information about the symptoms of ovarian cancer. According to the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance, around 22,000 American women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, while 3,000 women in Colorado are currently living with the disease.

The local nonprofit is officially starting its red envelope campaign. Since 2020, the organization has partnered with the D51 foundation and has given over $20,000 to over 140 kids in the valley. The organization raises money for kids from K-12 to participate in extracurricular activities. The campaign takes place twice a year, in the fall and spring, and encourages community members to get involved by writing $1 to $100 on 100 envelopes and getting donations. The organization will be at the Market on Main Street in downtown Grand Junction tonight. You can also donate online here.
